Essential Questions to ask your Wedding Planner!

You have decided you want help planning your wedding and now you have to interview wedding planners.  Below are some essential questions you want to ask them.

What services do you offer?

This may seem like a no brainer, but not every planning firm offers the same services.  Some specialize in Full Planning, while others may specialize just in Event Management (formerly called Day of Coordination). Some offer design and some don’t.  This is your opportunity to have them explain the differences in their packages to you.  Also, if their package doesn’t totally fit your needs, don’t be afraid to ask if they’ll customize a package for you.

How do you handle vendor selection?

Your vendor team is one of the most curated elements of your wedding.  It’s called a team because when they work seamlessly, then your day runs, you guessed it, pretty seamlessly.  Ask the planner if they know of or have worked with particular vendors you are considering, or if they have a suggestion of one of one that has the style you are going for.  Ask them if they will review your contracts and/or negotiate them on your behalf.  Lastly, ask them if they have a preferred vendor list and why those particular vendors made the list.

How do you manage our budget and payments?

Your budget is your budget.  Personally, we love talking dollars and cents, but we know that not everyone does.  This is your opportunity to ask the about how they: manage your budget; track your budget and payments due; manage the hidden cots you may not even know about.  

What Communication Channels do you use?

Communication is key!  Take this opportunity to ask about communication methods (calls, texts, emails, DMs), expected response timeframes, how often you’ll be updated. 

How do you handle emergencies and unexpected issues?

Truth time, everyone thinks weddings are about love, but for your planner, weddings are all about anticipating the unexpected.  Take this chance to ask the planner about something unexpected that came up on a wedding day, how they handled it and when the couple found out it happened. 

Do you have references?

This is a biggie! Unless you are one of the planner’s first weddings, which they should disclose to you, then the answer to this question should always be “Yes!”
